ten things you can do to be happier this week

i know you won't be shocked to hear i'm a BIG believer in optimism. it's something i try to talk about a lot on this blog. i'm also a big believer in two things related to happiness: 1. that it's a choice & there are active, therapeutic steps you can take to increase your happiness; 2. that the best source of happiness is giving it to others. 

below, there's a list of my tried & true ways to make your heart happier. and a challenge: jot down this list & put it somewhere in your home. each day for a week, try to check one or two things off the list. 

10 things you can do to be happier this week: 

1. tackle something that has been giving you anxiety. 
2. send a handwritten thank you note to someone.
3. do an anonymous, altruistic deed. 
4. pick something you have in excess: clothing, books -- and edit it down, enormously. 
5. write things you're grateful for on sticky notes, & cover a wall with them.  
6. seek forgiveness -- from yourself, or from someone you've wronged. 
7. call a friend just to say i love you. tell him or her why. be specific. 
8. reach out to someone who has inspired you in some way. 
9. express only positive things (no complaining at all) for a whole day.
10. start a journal & commit to it, even if it's just one line a day.

  10. i was just thinking yesterday about how different i feel when i take time to remember all the things i am thankful for... i like that this list also has "action points"!
    #11: write a blog (post) which gives hope and calls people to optimism. ;)
