the hotel across the highway

i've been itching for a year (or definitely longer) to grab a snap of this hotel sign. though it's just a quick drive through downtown & across the freeway, i always fell through on the follow through. but it finally happened, at 5:58 a.m. yesterday, when we rose with the sun to watch the city's morning sunbath. for the record, the crack o' dawn may be the best time to catch a glimpse of denver --  you gotta see her, dripping in that blood orange splendor of early morning. this photo will always be a small memento of living in this state, in this city...when we end up who-knows-where. and maybe also a little reminder to seize the day (or tackle it, or whatever verb fits best -- we like a lot of verbs here)-- take that photo you've wanted to take, drive to that mountain you want to climb, wake up to watch the dawn, finish that book, write that letter. that stuff. you know what i mean.

  2. first off, i love this. i totally know that feeling. where you see the frame you want and you pass by it so frequently that eventually you lose the motivation always saying you'll get to it eventually. i get it. I'm so glad you took this picture.

ALSO thanks for your comment on my blog, i don't know if you know how much i LOOOOVVEEEE Gilmore Girls. i may have seen every episode... twice. so you basically just got an A+++ in my book.

  3. i love the city when it's asleep, or just waking up, mostly empty and just mine.

  4. Really great shot! Early mornings are SO hard for me to do, but when I actually do make it up before the sun, nature almost never disappoints me!

  6. Cool photo! I have to admit, there are signs and things I've passed on a highway too that I've wanted to snap a photo of - and never asked my boyfriend to pull over so I can take the picture. And I know he would say yes - every time. And yes I do know what you mean! It's time I wake up early to watch that sunrise I've been meaning to see.
