kraft paper book covers

making kraft paper book covers for some books -- that i deeply love, but don't have the most becoming countenances -- has been on my to-do list forever. like -- five, six years? this is something i talked about doing back in high school and (surprise!) never got around to. but so far, 2014 has been a year of starting long-put-off projects, and i'm on a roll!

to make the covers, i just used a big ol' roll of brown craft paper + double-sided tape from hobby lobby, and fit covers to them -- the way we used to do for our books in elementary school. anyone remember that? it wasn't too terribly scientific, a kind of let's-hack-our-way-through-this kind of project. my specialty.

oh, and i love them.

  1. those are so beautiful. do you have write on them so you know what book it is?

    1. i've thought about it -- but i hate my handwriting! so there's a few ideas up in the air about that. but for the most part, the ones that are getting covered are good oldies that i'm not currently reading -- i can usually tell by the shape + weight of them which is which, but otherwise it's just a guess + check. but beautiful calligraphy down the side would be lovely!

  2. it's a great idea! it looks very nice.

  3. I used to do this to all my high school text books :) Love the idea for decoration!

  4. They look great! I love paper book covers, especially for making journals. They're fun to decorate. I suppose you could redesign each book's cover! :)

  5. you can print out letter stickers to write what book it is.. or something. :D anyway, they look pretty in the shelves like that.
