my rebellion is to stay the same

In the end my inclinations prevailed. My rebellion is to stay the same.

I was watching Mademoiselle C -- a documentary about former editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris, Carine Roitfeld -- on Netflix. And she said these two lines, off-handedly, snuck in with all the others. And I paused the television, and dropped the remote, sprinted to jot it down, fresh.

Because I love that idea -- that rebellion isn't existing in response to something else. But, simply to be. Unapologetically. To full-fledgedly be. It's passive, almost, that verb-- my rebellion is to stay the same. But then -- we know it really isn't passive at all.

That's an odd and wonderful notion if you ask me. I'm going to think on it awhile.

  1. This is really good. It makes a weird kind of sense.

  2. Beautiful! I'll have to check that out myself. Lovely, Netflix.

  3. Love this photo and quote. I am definitely going to watch that now! Look, you changed my day.

  4. Oooh I love a good documentary, and this one sounds like a winner.
